“In 2014 I spontaneously “heard” Veda in consciousness for a minute or two. My thoughts afterwards were that I wish that I had had a Thumb Drive to plug into my brain to somehow record this flow of Vedic sounds! I had learned in the mid-70s that Veda was “heard or cognized” but not authored by humans. This was a very fascinating and confirming experience — after many decades of daily spiritual practice.

NOTES ON THE GAYATRI MANTRA

The words ‘Hindu culture’ are used in the ‘Learn the Gayatri Mantra’ video but the Gayatri Mantra is universal and not exclusive to Hinduism. The ‘Gayatri Mantra’ is a Vedic expression (Rigveda Mandala 3.62.10).

The highly diverse texts of Hinduism include the Vedic corpus but Veda itself is universal, uncreated, eternal and non-changing — the language of Nature itself. Vedic expressions are ‘heard’ or ‘cognized’ but not authored by enlightened male and female Vedic seers.

Vedic expressions are the eternal expressions of the mechanics of Nature itself. They are absolute, non-changing expressions of Nature. It is said that the Vedic Rishi Vishvamitra was the author of Rigveda Mandala 3 and, therefore the author of Gayatri Mantra but this is incorrect. Vishvamitra cognized Mandala 3 of Rigveda. Nature itself is the author of Rigveda, Mandala 3 and the Gayatri Mantra.

Yes, India is the Land of the Veda but India does not own Veda. Veda may not be owned. We thank India for its custodial role in the long oral tradition of Veda — a tradition that began long before the advent of the written Sanskrit language.

Veda is uncreated, eternal and non-changing. Apaurusheya (not of a human) refers to Veda and the Gayatri Mantra. The majority of linguists do not understand that it is even possible for there to be a language of Nature itself — a language ‘not of a human’.

Anyone can purify, normalize and refine the function of the human nervous system to such a degree that the eternal, uncreated Veda can be “heard” within the transcendental value of sensory perception. This capability is actually the birthright of all human beings and reflects our highest ideal — of humanity changing into divinity.

The Gayatri Mantra is therefore Vedic and an eternal expression of Nature itself. It is not associated exclusively with any particular religion or wisdom tradition.

Apaurusheya (Sanskrit: अपौरुषेय, apauruṣeya, lit. means “not of a man”), meaning “not of human” or “impersonal, authorless”, is a term used to describe the Vedas.

Over the next few hundred years, “not of human” and Veda will increasingly define society, culture, medicine, architecture and religion. “Not of human” by inference means “of the Divine”. Veda is “the Word”. In the beginning was Veda, and Veda was with God, and Veda was God.
